Tigers agree to terms with four minor league free agents

    DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers announced today that the club has agreed to terms with four players on Minor League contracts for the 2019 season.

    The list of signed players includes righthanded pitcher Louis Coleman, catchers Kade Scivicque and Bobby Wilson and infielder Kody Eaves. All four players have received invitations to Major League Spring Training.

    Coleman, 32, spent most of the 2018 season with Detroit, appearing in 51 games and posting a 4-1 record with a 3.51 ERA (51.1IP/20ER) and 41 strikeouts. He also pitched in 13 games with Triple A Toledo and had a 0-0 record with a 2.40 ERA (15.0IP/4ER) and 15 strikeouts. Coleman has made 264 career appearances at the Major League level, compiling a 12-6 record with two saves, a 3.51 ERA (276.2IP/108ER) and 272 strikeouts. He has also made 232 outings, including four starts, in the Minor Leagues and has a 28-14 record with 46 saves, a 2.24 ERA (373.2IP/93ER) and 437 strikeouts. Coleman was selected to the Texas League Midseason All-Star Team in 2010 with Double A Northwest Arkansas and the Pacific Coast League Midseason All-Star Team in 2013 and 2015 with Triple A Omaha.

    Eaves, 25, rejoins the Tigers organization after splitting the 2018 season between Double A Erie and Triple A Toledo. In 93 games with the SeaWolves and Mud Hens, Eaves hit .198/.283/.298 with 42 runs scored, 17 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 25 RBI. In 668 career games at the Minor League level, he has batted .249/.313/.397 with 349 runs scored, 135 doubles, 38 triples, 52 home runs and 277 RBI. Eaves was named to the Midwest League Midseason All-Star Team in 2014 with Single A Burlington. He also posted impressive numbers in the Arizona Fall League in 2017, batting .337/.389/.554 with 14 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, three home runs and nine RBI in 22 games with Mesa.

    Scivicque, 25, spent time in both the Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers organizations last season. He combined to play in 68 games between Single A Lakeland, Double A Erie, Triple A Toledo and Triple A Gwinnett and hit .256/.315/.368 with 20 runs scored, 14 doubles, four home runs and 25 RBI. In four Minor League seasons, Scivicque has batted .268/.322/.367 with 123 runs scored, 53 doubles, three triples, 20 home runs and 122 RBI in 328 games. Scivicque was named to the Florida State League Midseason and Postseason All-Star Team in 2016 with Single A Lakeland and to the Southern League Midseason All-Star Team in 2017 with Double A Mississippi.

    Wilson, 35, returns to the Tigers after spending 2018 in the Minnesota Twins organization. Wilson played in 47 games with Minnesota, hitting .178/.242/.281 with 12 runs scored, eight doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI. He also saw time in 11 games with Triple A Rochester and hit .125/.182/.150 with two runs scored, one double and three RBI. Wilson has played 371 games in the Majors in his career, batting .208/.264/.313 with 81 runs scored, 39 doubles, 18 home runs and 100 RBI. He has also appeared in 893 games in the Minors, hitting .271/.331/.406 with 401 runs scored, 192 doubles, three triples, 80 home runs and 534 RBI. Wilson was named to the Texas League Midseason All-Star Team in 2007 with Double A Arkansas.
