GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids police said there will be no charges filed against David Allen Dean.
The Grand Rapids Police Department and the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the children made up the story about Dean after one of the children urinated on the 5-year-old girl.
“The community and members of the media were understandably interested and concerned about the allegations, “ Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said in a release. “But this is a prime example of why it’s so important to wait until all the evidence has been gathered and the criminal investigation has been completed before jumping to any conclusions.”
Other witnesses said Dean was not in the area when the incident happened.
During the forensic interview with the children involved the Children’s Advocacy Center learned about the other child urinating on the 5-year-old and then making up the story to avoid trouble.
Cle Jackson, with the NAACP Grand Rapids Chapter, said, "We believe in due process, we are happy the investigation is complete and allegations were apparently recanted and tossed. It's a very serious situation with very serious allegations that could destroy a person's life."
