Ohio child found covered in feces living in hotel with mom, 3 dogs
PERKINS TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - An Ohio mother is in jail after police found her three-year-old son covered in dog feces, WEWS reports.
The mother and child were living in a hotel with three great danes for a month. The Howard Johnson hotel room was covered in feces and urine.
Conditions were so deplorable that a special crew wearing protective clothing were called in to sanitize the room.
"There was a liquid urine and feces seeping from underneath the door," Perkins Township Asst. Police Chief Vince Donald said.
The boy was discovered when the Erie County dog warden was called to the scene to check on the condition of the dogs.
Children services had the child checked out at a hospital and then placed with a relative.
Dezeray Powell, 21, was arrested for animal cruelty and child endangering. The three great danes were so malnourished you could see their ribs and they were locked in a small bathroom.
"It was pretty heartbreaking, because the child they don't make that choice. You as an adult make that choice, so that child doesn't have a choice to live in that environment," Asst. Chief Donald said.
The dogs will be put up for adoption after they are rehabilitated which could take months.
