CORUNNA, Mich. -- In Corunna, a special ceremony was held Sunday afternoon to honor a portion of a highway for fallen soldier Pfc. Shane Cantu.

The road sign is at M-71 between Corunna and Owosso and reads “The Pfc. Shane Cantu Veterans Memorial Highway.”

Cantu was killed in action on August 28, 2012 from wounds sustained in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.

He was born in Owosso and spent much of his childhood and young adulthood in Corunna.

Pastor Marlene Webster posted a portion of the ceremony to her Facebook page.

“We can never do enough to honor those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy. May God bless the memory of PFC Shane Cantu. Our continued love and support are with his family,” said Webster.

Below is a video of the dedication.
