SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. --The Bridgeport Township Police Department say that a 16-year-old student was taken to a juvenile detention center after bringing a gun to school.

Police say the student brought a gun to school on Wednesday, May 16.

School Superintendent Carol Selby says school officials got a tip that the student had the gun.

Selby says the student was approached by staff and the gun was found in the students backpack.

According to a news release from the Bridgeport Township Police Department, the student was detained and the gun was recovered before an officer arrived on scene.

The school went into secure mode the remainder of the day.

The news release also states that the student could possibly face charges as well.
