Plane crashes in Oscoda Township, search for pilot underway

OSCODA TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A search us underway for the pilot of a plane that crashed in Iosco County.

The wreckage was found in the woods several miles west of Oscoda Wurtsmith Airport in Oscoda Township Tuesday.

Michigan State Police says runway lights were activated at the airport by the pilot around 7:30 a.m., but no plane landed.

Crews found the wreckage just before 10:30 a.m.

Police believe the pilot was a 33-year-old man from Florida and he was the only person onboard.

The plane was coming from Ypsilanti.

The federal aviation administration is currently in route to the crash scene to investigate what happened.
