SAGINAW, Mich. – The man accused of setting a Saginaw home on fire, with family members inside was in court Tuesday.

38-year-old Jason Desmone’s attorney asked for a competency exam for his client.

Police say Desmone started the fire, leaving his elderly mother and handicapped sister trapped last month on Wood Street.

Firefighters rescued them, but the two women later died.

Desmone is charged with six felonies including first degree murder.
