SWARTZ CREEK, Mich. – Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at a Swartz Creek funeral home.

The call for a fire at Sharp Funeral Home on Miller Road came in just after 10 p.m. Wednesday night.

More than 70 firefighters from Mundy and Gaines Townships as well as the cities of Flint and Swartz Creek were called to the scene.

Flames tore through the roof of the building.

The call was made for firefighters to take a defensive posture and evacuate the building.

Funeral home owner Roger Sharp, who has had the business since 1969, says he plans to rebuild.

He also says the human remains inside the building should be safe from the fire inside closed coolers.

His main concern was to recover the remains of his customers' loved ones.

No word has yet been on a cause and there will be an investigation.

This is a developing story and we will continue to update it as information becomes available.
