SAGINAW, Mich. - After adding metal detectors, now a full-time Saginaw police officer will patrol Covenant Healthcare's main campus.

Spokesperson Kristin Knoll says this additional security measure isn't a direct result of the shooting that took place inside the hospital last year.

Instead, it's part of the hospital's 3-year plan.

Knoll says while covenant has a security team on site, officers are able to do more.

"Mostly there are certain things our security officers can't do. They're assigned to covenant property and they don't have full arrest powers, they aren't allowed to pursue people off of campus so if there are things that come up there are things now that we routinely have to call the SAGINAW POLICE Department for,” said Knoll.

Knoll says this position is being funded by Covenant, and that an officer should be in place in the next couple weeks.
