BAY COUNTY, Mich. --A Bay County family is counting their blessings tonight.

A fire broke out in their home on Seidlers Street in Kawkawlin Friday morning.

Thanks to the actions of a quick-thinking state trooper, all four family members and the dog were able to make it out safely, but the home was a total loss.

It's been just two days since the Paten family lost their home and everything in it to a fire.

The family picked up a truck load of items to help them get by.

The family has been associated with the Michigan Special Olympics for years.

When news broke of the tragedy the family suffered — the local Olympics community sprang into action.

Donations have been pouring in; clothing, shoes and personal care items are all items this family who lost everything is in desperate need of.

The family is still in need of some gloves and hats and scarves.
