NEW LOTHROP, Mich. – A 9-year-old New Lothrop boy bravely fought brain cancer to the very end.

Braden Miller had a rare tumor called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma.

He passed away Friday evening.

On Saturday, New Lothrop Elementary School hosted a craft fair, where Braden, or Buddy as most people knew him, went to school.

The event was planned prior to his death to raise money for his treatments.

Event organizer Pam O'Briant says the outpouring of community support surpassed her expectations.

“When I first heard about Buddy and his situation I couldn't imagine as a parent having to make a choice between not doing a treatment that I thought would help my child or worrying about the money so this is something I thought we can do,” said O’Briant.

Buddy's celebration of life is Wednesday at noon at Swartz Funeral Home in Flint.

His family asks those who attend to wear a splash of lime green in his honor.
