Path to Greatness: "He's still here" for Swan Valley's Ashley Danilowicz

The Swan Valley softball team is in the midst of another stellar season, ranked second in the state and an unblemished 16-0. But this year, they're playing for more than a State Championship. Senior centerfielder Ashley Danilowicz's father Jim passed away in November when a medical condition caused a car accident.

Jim Danilowicz was around the program and this senior class since t-ball, coaching them on the way up to varsity in softball and soccer, setting a foundation for what has become a successful senior class. A banner in memory of him is on the right field fence at Swan Valley, a symbol of his legacy and impact on this team and program.

"Even though he's not here...he's still here," Ashley says. "I can't still hear him, but I remember the things he told me about softball, and to keep doing those things."

She says she's playing for him now, showing the strength and courage which is inspiring this Vikings group, something they hope guides them to a State Title on Father's Day weekend.
