Clutch goals, history and perfection highlight final steps towards state title


Powers Catholic girls soccer returns to the Division 3 state title game with a late Rachel Rasins goal, giving them a 2-1 victory over Macomb Lutheran North. They will take on Freeland, who beat Hudsonville Unity Christian 3-2 in the other semifinal. Powers takes on Freeland on Friday at 1 p.m. in the state title game at Williamston High School.

Caro baseball advanced to the Division 3 State Semifinals for the first time in school history, beating Hemlock 2-0. They take on Madison Heights Bishop Foley on Friday at Michigan State University at 9 a.m.

Haley Peska's perfect game sent Shepherd softball to the Division 3 State Semifinals, beating Millington 5-0. Shepherd plays Monroe St Mary Catholic Central in the State Semifinals on Friday at 3 p.m. at MSU.

Bay City John Glenn baseball was all over Sault Ste Marie, winning 11-1 in 5 innings. John Glenn plays Dearborn Divine Child on Thursday at 5 p.m. at MSU.

Unionville-Sebewaing baseball advanced to the Division 4 State Semifinals with a 4-3 victory over Royal Oak Shrine Catholic. They take on Portland St. Patrick at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at MSU.

Corunna baseball fell to Chelsea 5-4.
Powers softball fell 8-0 to Ida.
Swan Valley softball fell to Escanaba 5-0.
The Heritage baseball team fell to Grand Haven 2-0.
The Linden soccer team fell to Bloomfield Hills Marian 2-0.
