Berrien County deputies recover body from Paw Paw River
WATERVLIET, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) —
Berrien County deputies pulled a body from the Paw Paw River on Tuesday.
Deputies were searching the Paw Paw River for kayaker reported missing on February 27 and located a body near Watervliet.
The Berrien County Sheriff Dive Team was called in and at 4:47 p.m. they recovered the body of a white man.
The body was transported to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph and an autopsy will be conducted.
Police say three people we're kayaking along the Paw Paw River in Watervliet, just east of Coloma, when two of the kayaks got hit by a log in the river on February 27.
One kayaker was able to swim to shore, while the other has not been found.
The missing kayaker was identified as 35-year-old Cory Wright of Niles.
Deputies are working to identify the body.
