Racks of suites, blouses, dresses and even scrubs line the walls of a little shop in Alma, but there isn’t a price tag in sight. Everything is donated to the Career Closet, and then to women who need it.

“Clients can come and pick a number of different outfits, try them on, have some guidance with accessorizing and support and then walk out with several outfits completely free,” said Dr. Joanne Gilbert, president of the Women’s Resource Center of Mid-Michigan, the organization that oversees the closet.

“It does amazing things for their self-esteem and that is something you really can't quantify,” she said.

The Career Closet is run by volunteers and is open two days a week: Tuesdays, 5:30-7 p.m. and Thursdays, 12-1 p.m. They’re ready to serve women across Gratiot County.
