‘Unanticipated’ building collapse reported at Dow Headquarters in Midland
MIDLAND, Mich. --Midland Fire Chief Chris Coughlin says an unanticipated building collapse took place at the Dow Headquarters in Midland on Thursday morning.
Chief Coughlin says that the building was being demolished and was already partially gone when the rest of it collapsed suddenly.
No injuries were reported as no one was in the building at the time.
Chief Coughlin also adds that the collapse poses no threat to the public.
Dow spokesman Jarrod Erpedling released this statement about the collapse:
“This morning around 8:15 a.m. a building currently under demolition at Dow’s global headquarters experienced weakening in the structure as part of the demolition project, resulting in the remaining structure coming down. Employee and contract worker safety was effectively managed resulting in no injuries. Advanced preparation of the building removed any potentially hazardous materials from the structure prior to demolition. An emergency response team is on site to ensure a continued focus on safety and management of the job site.”
Another statement was posted on the Dow Michigan Operations page.
