Thirty years ago, the USS Stark was struck by two missiles during the Iran-Iraq War, killing 37 sailors on board, including Kelly Quick of Swartz Creek.

"I miss him so much," said his father, Bob Quick.

Quick's parents are still working to live with the death of their son after he was killed on board that ship in 1987.

"I am proud of what he did, I know he was prepared to do his duty aboard that ship," his mother Karen Welch said. "This is what his plan was, this is what he wanted to do...and he did it."

Quick's family was joined by several Swartz Creek community members as they paid their respects at the Swartz Creek Veterans Memorial.
