Smiles, bears delivered during Teddy Bear Ride
SAGINAW, Mich. --Nearly 200 people on motorcycles took a road trip from Great Lakes Harley Davidson in Bay City to Covenant Hospital in Saginaw on Saturday. Each bike carrying at least one stuffed animal to be donated to young patients at the hospital. The stuffed animals are given to the young patients when they check in to help keep them comfortable during their stay in the hospital. Pediatric Ward Volunteer Marcia Silvestri says the stuffed animals help put the kids at ease.
“Many of the kids are scared because they’ve never been here before and don’t know what to expect. We tell them when something hurts, you hug that bear. When we walk into the room and they see the stuffed animal, everything changes, and their smile lights up the room,” Silvestri says.
More than 2,000 children check into the pediatric ward at Covenant Hospital each year, and everyone is offered a stuffed animal when they check in.
