FLINT, Mich. - Over 1,000 students came out for the second annual ‘Pack Your Back’ giveaway in Flint.

Students from pre-school all the way to 12th grade could get a free backpack filled with notebooks, pens, crayons, glue and other essentials.

‘Pack Your Back’ is a non-profit organization started by a group of Central Michigan University students who wanted to help younger generations succeed.

"Some families aren’t able to get the income they need to purchase this stuff and something as little as a $6 backpack is difficult for some people and we just want to help as many kids as we can. For us to move forward as a country we need to educate our children,” said the organization’s executive director Galen Miller.

For those students unable to make Sunday's event, the group will be hosting another giveaway on August 12 in Detroit.
