Mid-Michigan voters head to the polls

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, May 2.

We have a complete list of what they will be voting on below:

Genesee County 911 Millage

  • Surcharge increase
  • Raising current charge $.62 from $1.24 to $1.86 per device or line, per month
  • Cost $7.44/ year- per cell/ home phone
  • Surcharge rates set by the state in 2008
  • Need money to replace all 800MHz radios- which not serviced by their provider anymore
  • Total cost $500K
  • If not passed- radios will be replaced over the course of three years, not all at once
  • Police and Fire Departments would then be responsible for picking up the cost for their replacement radios, which could mean cuts to public safety service and personnel


Saginaw Community Schools Operating Millage

  • No increase to homeowners
  • Non-homestead renewal
  • Original millage passed in 2012, and expires in 2020
  • Need to renew due to acquisition of Bunea Vista Schools
  • Schools will lose $195/ student or $1.1 M a year if not renewed
  • Cities currently paying: Saginaw, Kochville, Zilwaukee
  • Tax applies to businesses only
  • Buena Vista businesses will now have to pay in

Flint Community Schools Operating Millage

  • Millage would begin in 2020 and run until 2039
  • Homeowners not affected
  • Money goes towards standard operating: teachers, facilities, athletics, transportation
  • Last millage passed in 2009

Bridgeport-Spaulding Community Schools Millage

  • No property tax increase for residents
  • Sinking Fund: replaces current 6 mill bond, this one is for 3mills over 10 years
  • Voters approved Bond debt in 2002- that ran out in 2016
  • Millage used for renovation or repair of school buildings, upgrading technology, school security
  • If approved, it would cut the 2002 millage by 50%

Huron Wind LLC Overlay District

  • Voters in Sherman, Sigel, Sand Beach and Delaware Townships will decide if they want a 60 turbine wind farm

DTE Overlay District

  • 16 county-zoned townships will decide if they want DTE to develop a wind farm that encompasses four townships.
  • It would have 70 turbines

  • Chesaning Community Schools
  • Harrison Community Schools
  • Harbor Beach Schools Annex
  • Capac Community Schools Bond
  • RAPS Operating Millage (Roscommon, Crawford Counties)
  • Peck Community Schools
  • Laingsburg Schools (technically Lansing)
  • Perry Schools
  • Vassar Community Schools

Fire/ Police

  • Atlas Twp Fire
  • Atlas Twp Police
  • Au Gres Police Protection

Roads

  • Paris Township Road Millage

Other

  • Port Austin Township Hall
  • Sand Beach Township Zoning – if voters want new ordinance limiting sound
  • Lincoln Township Zoning- if they want to form their own planning commission
  • Houghton Lake School Board
  • Marlette Township Zoning
  • Almer Township Zoning Ordinance
