Michigan State Police plan to be out in large numbers on NYE weekend
BIRCH RUN, Mich. -- Hundreds of travelers are making their way to their New Year's Eve celebration over the weekend.
Michigan State Police are reminding drivers to think before you drink and drive.
During Thanksgiving alone there was ten traffic relates deaths in the state and this month during MSP's Operation C.A.R.E there were three traffic-related deaths.
That number is down from last year, but officers say even one is too many.
"It's tough telling someone their loved one passed away due to careless driving or drunk driving. It's something they'll have to live with the rest of their lives," said Sgt. Rick Jones.
Officers suggest having a designated driver or calling Lyft or Uber for more tips head to the Michigan State Police website.
There will be additional patrols out through the new year.
