SANILAC COUNTY, Mich. --The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office says a man was not wearing a helmet when he hit a groundhog and was thrown from his motorcycle.

The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. Saturday near Isles and French Line roads in Sanilac County’s Elmer Township.

The sheriff’s investigation shows that the 59-year-old Sandusky man was heading southbound on Isles Road when he hit a groundhog, lost control of his motorcycle and was then thrown from it.

He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The sheriff says alcohol wasn’t a factor.

The incident is still under investigation.
