Hamady Complete Food store preparing to reopen almost 30 years after closing
FLINT, Mich. -- It has been almost 30 years since they closed their doors, but now, Hamady Complete Food Center is set to reopen in Flint.
Their first location is set to open on Pierson Road in Hallwood Plaza at the end of February 2018.
Originally they had planned to open last summer but some unforeseen construction issues caused a delay.
The building on Pierson Road is approximately 74,000 square feet and will have a deli, bakery, florist, and pharmacy. They will also feature a soul food buffet, dollar store section, and a variety of Michigan made products.
Their CEO, Jim McColgan Jr. say it will be more than just a grocery store.
"This store will have a tremendous impact because we are going to cater to the area, people and we are going to very involved with the school and sports teams and arts teams," says McColgan. "We’re going to be very involved. We’re not just going to be a grocery store, we’re going to be a community store."
Residents like Sandra Barnett are excited for this returning business.
"It’s very much needed in this community," says Barnett. "There’s a lot of people that live over here and they can walk right over here. They don’t have to catch a bus, that was a major problem when Kroger left."
The store on Pierson Road will employ 61 full time individuals. If you are interested in applying, there will be a job fair at the Sloan Museum on Wednesday, January 17th from 11 am to 6 pm.
Hamady Complete Food Center is hoping to open more locations throughout the county in the future.
