Hunters counting down to opening day of rifle season
SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. --Let the countdown begin!
We’re roughly 50 hours away from the opening day of rifle season.
For many in Michigan, opening day is treated like a holiday.
On Sundays, it's usually southbound I-75 filled with traffic from those weekend warriors returning home, but today the northbound side of 75 is filled with hunters heading north in anticipation of Wednesday's opening day of firearm season.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, over half a million people hunted deer in Michigan in 2016, and about 41 percent of those hunters killed at least one deer.
This year they are predicting an even bigger deer harvest due to our recently mild winters.
