FENTON, Mich. --An elderly couple is ok after their car was hit by a train after it got stuck on the tracks in Fenton.
Fenton Police received a call from a local towing company just before 7:30 a.m, who then told police they received a call from a woman reporting her car was struck on the tracks.
Police were able to locate the car in the area of Silver Lake Road just east of Leroy Street.
A passerby tried to help the elderly couple, but wasn’t able to get their car off the tracks in time.
Police contacted Canadian National Railway, and the engineer was able to slow the train down but wasn’t able to avoid impact.
The impact caused the car to spin around, striking a light pole and a sign posted to warn motorists to not stop on the tracks.
Train crossings in Fenton located between Poplar and Howard were closed for almost two hours because of the incident.
Police determined that the car had struck a curb which damaged a ball joint and led to the car’s rear quarter getting stuck.
