DWLS: A road more traveled
Last year in Saginaw County, over 2,100 people were arrested for Driving Without a License.
That’s the most in all of Michigan. While many motorists consider DWLS a minor traffic offense, law enforcement disagrees.
“We take you to jail” said Saginaw County Undersheriff Phil Hart. “It doesn’t matter what the reason you were suspended.”
Driving suspended is a 90 day misdemeanor.
But despite the potential consequences, there are those who say they have no choice but to drive.
A Burton woman told us “I am driving suspended today. I really don’t have a choice. I risk it because I can’t afford the five, six hundred dollars it’s going to cost me. “
