A resolution was put in front of the Bay City Commissioners by the Mid-Michigan Progressive Democrats to classify Bay City as a ‘Welcoming City’. Commissioners approved the measure at their schedule meeting at city hall on Monday night. Terry Miller is with the group and he says it sends a message that Bay City is a safe place to be for legal immigrants to be welcomed to live.

“We’re not saying anything about supporting illegal immigrants, or supporting illegal immigrants. We’re simply saying legal immigrants should be welcomed. Humanitarian efforts and other types of support should be open and available to them,” Miller says.

This classification is not the same as being classified as a Sanctuary City. You can learn more about the differences here.
