AmeriCorps director visits Flint school to witness impact of service members
FLINT, Mich. - Newly appointed corporation for national and community service director of AmeriCorps, Chester Spellman was at Durant-Tuuri-Mott in Flint Tuesday.
Spellman was in town to see how the community is supporting AmeriCorps the organization's master plan.
More than 400 national service members are placed throughout the city encouraging community education, blight reduction, water crisis intervention, health access and physical and nutrition education.
"We're just honored to be able to partner with the community, with the Mott Foundation, and deploy AmeriCorps members here to this community to help meet some of the challenges and needs this community is facing," said Spellman.
Spellman was specifically at Durant-Tuuri-Mott to witness how Flint Community Schools are leveraging national service members to help students and families succeed.
