NBC25 News Playground Project expands to six new builds for summer 2018
In the third year of the Playground Project in Flint, NBC 25 News and their local partners are building six new playgrounds for the kids of Flint.
The sites and times for the six new playground sites:
Farnumwood Park, July 28th at 8am-1:30
Eldorado Vista, August 1st, 10am-3:30pm
Cook Park, August 4th, 8am-1:30pm
Clara Hilborn, August 6th, 10am-3:30pm
Dewey Park, August 8th, 10am-3:30pm
Whaley Park, August 11, 8am-1:30pm
In the first year of the Playground Project, one site was built. In 2017, NBC 25 News and their partners provided two playgrounds. And in the third year, the expansion of six playgrounds are being implemented to combat the shortage of spaces in Flint. According to a 2016 park assessment, the City of Flint has 47 moderate sized playgrounds in good condition. Based on National Recreation and Park Association standards for park amenities per capita and Michigan Department of Natural Resources planning guidelines, that City of Flint is in need of 36 new moderately sized playgrounds to meet the needs of its nearly 100,000 residents.
Volunteers are needed and welcome for any or all of the playground builds. If you would like to help NBC 25 News and the community of Flint, please volunteer to help.
